“The range runners are their own worst enemies, they’ll burn stuff up and light fires.” “We found this V-6 engine and this guy went out and burned it up so we couldn't get it. That’s the type of guy you’ll find…they do things for meanness and it was his buddy’s truck.”
Jim now goes through the entire process of melting silver. Starting with a round coil from jet engine, he lights the propane torch and begins the refining process. Camera goes between MS and CU while Jim explains the process behind his work. “If you don't preheat the crucible and you have moisture on it, one of the worst things in the whole world is to have the hot metal flying everywhere.” “Silver is a very easy metal to melt…now there’s the ingot and it’s already broke free from the steam, but I don't want to pour it yet,”
As he continues to refine the silver, he explains the pricing and purity of the final ingot for the coin exchange in San Diego. “Now at about eleven ounces at $4.11…about fifty bucks.”
“Every year when the people leave the slabs they abandon their vehicles and I go out their and I turn them over to cut the steel out and sell it. $200 out there.”
Also, assorted B-roll on this tape of Jim’s yard and living area. Jim’s demonstration and walk-through of the refining of silver from coiled wire to ingot is well chronicled on this tape. He is happy to share his story with the camera. As always, the can of beer is in hand while Campbell works away. Audio and video continue to be strong on this tape, too. - Creation Date
