British oceanographer Blodwen Lloyd; her thesis on marine bacteriology led to a PhD. In 1951, Lloyd made a voyage of 1000 miles up the Amazon in the cruise ship Hilary. She was a member of the Glasgow Natural History Society, serving as vice-president from 1962-1965. She was photographed while making a visit to Scripps Institution of Oceanography. October 29, 1935.
