Mang Ke is a well know poet in China. Like Bei Dao and Yan Li, he was active in underground cultural circles in China in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He was a founding editor of the literary journal TODAY (Jintian) in 1978, participated in the 1979 demonstration for artistic freedom and continues to write poetry and edit poetry journals. This photograph of Mang Ke and his wife was taken at a party in the artist Yue Minjun’s house Dali, China.
