Front view of a Kiliwa house (wa'), of the original primitive type, made of weeds, boughs, and yucca trunks lashed to a framework of poles. From the outside, such a house resembles an untidy trash pile, but inside it is smooth and well finished. This house was built be Emiliano for his aged mother and aunt, who could not be happy in any other kind of house. To the right may be seen part of the modern rectangular gabled house, higher and airier, occupied by Emiliano and his wife. [source: The Kiliwa Indians of Lower California (Plate VI, figure a)]
