Slag Layer -- Slag layer to the north of main structure and below its foundations level. Thick layer of slag arranged in diagonal slope declining from north to south. Among slag large ammounts of tuyere pipes and furnace fragments. Excavation of the layer not -- Represents layer that predates the main structure but seems to post-date the earlier structure found beneath the foundations of the former.

Dense accumulation of slag, tuyere pipes (including several semi-intact) and furnace fragments. Scattered shards.
Locus above: 1830 -- Locus contemporary: 1832 -- Locus below: 1840
West: section. South: L1835, East: L1836,. North: L1837.

Area stratum R3a
Possible reason for deposit: filling of early structure in order to stabilize foundation bed for later large structure. -- concluded, priority in this season' s research led to abandonment in order to extend the excavated area northwars. Slag layer limited to the west of wall L1836. To the suth of this wall (L1832) - layer of crushed slag.
