The CCN-100 instrument from DMT operates at Barrow to measure aerosol particles that can activate to form cloud droplets (also known as cloud condensation nuclei). The instrument operates by supersaturating sample air to the point where the CCN become detectable particles, which are then sized using an optical particle counter. The supersaturations selected are 0.1%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% at intervals of 5 minutes and then the order is reversed and stepped back to 0.1%. Each hour of operation includes supersaturations from 0.1% to 1% at 10 min and 1.5% at 5 min.

The CCN instrument used at Barrow for this dataset comes from Droplet Measurement Technologies (DMT) in Boulder, CO. (Model Number: DMT CCN 100, Serial Number 001). More information about this instrument can be found at https://www.dropletmeasurement.com/product/cloud-condensation-nuclei-counter/. The retrieval and posting of the raw data is completed automatically by NOAA. Quality control and post-processing were completed using MATLAB R2023a software by the authors.
