Parathyroid gland metastases literature review

While there are a large number of case presentations concerning cancers metastatic to the head and neck organs, it can be difficult to find accurate data regarding the overall incidence and clinical history of these malignancies. This article, which reviews the literature regarding metastases to the parathyroid gland, is the first in a series of literature reviews that will attempt to tabulate the frequency of and the characteristics of metastases to head and neck organs. The intent of this project is to create a resource for anatomic pathologists to develop a differential diagnosis when examining neoplastic cells in a head and neck organ and to elucidate the relative likelihood with which cancers metastasize to head and neck organs, thus furthering the understanding of how tumor-stromal interactions play a role in cancer pathophysiology
