After a rank-taking in Malavung, a cooking shed kitchen catches fire. In 1970, there was no water supply on East Aoba except rainfall. This sequence of four photos shows what usually happens when a house or kitchen catches fire. A brave man jumps on the roof with a long stick, and attempts to push the burning sections of the pandanus roof down below.
