Sand on top of that, with a layer of caliche between the sand and gravel. On top of the sand everywhere are mussel shells, sometime heaped up in piles a foot thick: probably of Indian origin. The sand at the northeast end of the ensenada is whited???: most recent dunes here? Yellow farther on again.
