Custom style statues

- Description

These carvings were brought down from Lus to sell. They are basically soft wood, carved and then decorated with clay, paint and sometimes, feathers. The clay and paint of these are natural and locally mined. Sometimes small, fine pieces are spliced on with shards of bamboo. Spider webs were integrated to encourage the clay to hold together. Traditionally, some carving patterns were "owned" and anyone who wanted to duplicate them had to pay for that privilege. Generally, Mewun art was not made to last and not valued after it was used in a ceremony until the outside world became interested in buying them.
