- Description
-
The time-lapse movie made in 1974 shows meiosis in spermatocytes of Chrysochraon japonicas (grasshopper) as seen with the polarizing microscope. The principal birefringent components are the spindle microtubules. Their dynamic assembly and disassembly creates the flickering 'Northern Lights' effect.
