Ha Jin is a Chinese writer who came to the U.S. as a graduate student and after the Tiananmen Square Incident of June 4, 1989, he decided to become a U.S. citizen and write only in English. He is known primarily as a novelist, but he also written short stories and poetry. He has won every major literary prize in the U.S. This photograph was taken in his office at Boston University.
