NO campaign: For the first time in 15 years, the political opposition has been able to publicly show their views. Generals express what they want in a presidential candidate. Pinochet was chosen even though he has been in power 15 years and does not match any of the traits the generals described. Chileans want something different than a country under Pinochet. Chileans want a true democracy with liberty, social justice, and economic growth. Patricio Aylwin (president of Christian Democratic Party) discusses democracy in Chile and the obstruction of the Pinochet regime. He states that intolerance was caused by the dictatorship, and Chile must return back to a true democracy. He urges voters to vote NO.
YES campaign: Chilean women talk about the problems Chile has; some of these problems include: violence, housing, poverty, and uncertainty. Chile under Pinochet will remain a democratic, winning country with economic growth based on exports. Hernan Buchi (Minister of Finance) discusses exports, job opportunities, and economic growth. Journalist Hermógenes Pérez de Arce states that voting NO would make Chile return to socialism. National Renovation states that voting YES will ensure that Chile remains a true democracy. - Event Date
