Don Walsh, doing some research in the Scripps Library Archives reading room. Walsh along with Jacques Piccard made the deepest dive, in the TRIESTE, 35,800 feet, almost seven miles to the seafloor in the Challenger Deep, the deepest ocean trench in the world. September 7, 2005.
