Pillowcase on Seuss Statue
- Collection
- Description
-
UC San Diego police are investigating the discovery about 11 p.m. Monday of what appeared to be a white pillowcase that had been crudely reconstituted into a KKK-style hood with a hand-drawn symbol. It was placed on a statue outside the main campus library, and a rose was inserted into the statue's fingers (Showley, 2010).
Campus police say the hood covered the head of a Theodor Seuss Geisel statue, near where the university had planned to celebrate the children's author's birthday yesterday and next to the towering library that carries his name. The event was called off in light of racial tensions on the La Jolla campus (Klan-style hood found on statue at UCSD, 2010). - Creation Date
