Description

Carol Pletcher received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota (1979). She joined Cargill in 1983 as a senior scientist on the central research staff, and became Cargill's Innovation Officer. Pletcher served as president of Pletcher Consulting, the firm she founded in 2007. Known as a leader in corporate innovation,  Pletcher was one of 16 female American scientists invited to visit China in 1981 under the auspices of the All-China Women's Federation. The tour group met with professional Chinese women, were introduced to officials of the People's Republic who formulated science and technology policy, and travelled to Shanghai, Wuxi, Nanjing, Sian, and Beijing.

Papers and photographs documenting Carol Pletcher's trip with the U.S. Women Scientists China Study Tour in 1981, including her travel journal, illustrate the events and people associated with the tour and Pletcher’s involvement with them.
