The University Art Gallery Records Selections documents exhibitions curated between 1968 to 2004. Founded in 1966 to support the Visual Arts Department, the gallery specializes in contemporary performance, sound, and installation art. In 1974, the name was changed to the Mandeville Gallery, when it moved into a space within the Mandeville Center for the Arts. In 1993, when the gallery came under the direction of the Dean of the Arts and Humanities, the gallery's name was changed to the University Art Gallery.
The digital objects were created from original slides maintained by the gallery's administrative office. To preserve the archival context, these images are presented in their original cabinet drawer order.
Metadata and descriptions were primarily sourced from the exhibition catalog, Artistic Research: Visual Arts: University Art Gallery, UC San Diego. Supplemental details were pulled from handwritten inscriptions on the slides where available. Please note that these digital records may not represent every artist or artwork from the original exhibitions. - Creation Date
