Description

The Samoa Ocean Strategy (SOS) is a national policy framework that seeks to sustainably manage Samoa's vast ocean and marine resources. The SOS provides integrated ocean management solutions like marine spatial planning, sustainable fisheries management, and development of Samoa's Blue Economy that will advance ocean stewardship and ensure the cultural and economic values that Samoans derive from the ocean are preserved for generations to come.

Included in this collection are large-area image datasets collected across Samoa used to understand the benthic reef community in support of the Samoa Ocean Strategy. This data was collected in partnership with the Government of Samoa, the Waitt Institute, and the Sandin Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography to support scienced-based sustainable ocean management.
