General Printing Information

Printing Costs

  • Black and white $0.11/page (single-sided) or $0.19/page (double-sided);
  • Color $0.30/page ($0.40 double-sided).
  • Only letter-sized paper (8.5” x 11”) is available for printing. 

Scanning

  • UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students can request copies of items from most of the Library’s print collection free of charge. Learn how to place a scanning request here.
  • Self-service scanning in the Library is free. 
  • Book scanners are available on Geisel Library’s 2nd and 1st Floors (East and West) and on WongAvery Library’s 1st Floor.  These scanners allow quick, high-quality scans of all kinds of materials, including books and magazines, without damaging the items.
  • Flatbed scanners are available in Geisel Library ’s East and West Commons.
  • Scanners are also available in the Digital Media Lab (DML) for UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students. These scanners allow scanning 35mm negatives and slides.
  • You can also use your mobile device's camera to capture information you might otherwise copy or scan. Acrylic risers to help you take clear, steady images with your device are available near the scanners in Geisel Library's East & West Commons (2nd Floor).

Microform Scanners

  • Self-service microform scanners are available in Geisel 2nd Floor West during Geisel’s open hours
  • Instructions are posted at each machine.
