Helen S. Hawkins Endowment Fund

Helen S. Hawkins (1930–1989) was a noted feminist, historian, and producer/host of humanities programming at KPBS Public Television in San Diego. She earned her Ph.D. in history from UCSD and was active in women's rights advocacy, including co-founding the San Diego chapter of the National Organization for Women.

The Helen S. Hawkins Collection in the UCSD Library's Special Collections & Archives includes manuscripts and media materials Hawkins assembled, particularly related to her work on the book Toward a Livable World: Leo Szilard and the Crusade for Nuclear Arms Control as well as audio/video recordings from her television work.

An endowment fund named for Helen S. Hawkins supports the stewardship and accessibility of her collection and related archival resources within the UCSD Libraries, ensuring these historical materials remain available for research and public engagement.
