Discussion
- Final report: Ad Hoc Committee on Writing the Self Review: Kari Lucas made the following motion: “Move that we file the Final Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Writing the Self Review”. Barbara Slater seconded this motion.
Comments:
- The Executive Board thanks Kari and Barbara for the work on the workshop and report
- Who should be doing this workshop in the future - CAPA, future chairs of LAUC-SD, LHR?
- Make sure this workshop is not redundant with the LHR workshop
The motion was carried.
- LAUC-SD membership dues - how dues are used: Executive Board wants to make sure membership is aware that voluntary contributions go towards pizza parties and retirement gifts for members. A 2004/2005 LAUC-SD Financial Status Report was prepared by Jeff Williams, current Secretary/Treasurer, and distributed to the membership. Some members choose not to make a contribution. Kari Lucas reminded the membership that the USE Credit Union starts charging fees on our account if we go below a balance of $400.00.
Discussion on gifts:
- Lynda Claassen: forgo funding the parties, and use the funds for retirement gifts
- Anne Prussing: believes it is more important to promote social events, rather than gifts
- Elliott Kanter: could we contribute money to fund the member’s retirement party?
- Kari Lucas: suggests a standardized gift, like a paperweight
- Julie Page: gifts should be related to UCSD
Discussion on pizza socials:
- These are the best attended events because members do not want to stay late for afternoon events
- Adolfo Tarango: would like some variety instead of all pizza parties – possibly a different event once a year
- Voluntary contributes only bring in $520 annually, so we can only fund three pizza socials, and a few retirement gifts
- Should we raise the suggested voluntary contribution level?
- Should we eliminate beer at the pizza parties?
- Executive Board should consider an alternative location for at least one of the events
- Members could contribute as much as they want
Sense of the membership was that the Executive Board should take this feedback into consideration, and discuss further.
- The next membership Pizza Social will be:
Tuesday, June 21st
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Round Table Pizza - on the patio
The Next LAUC-SD Membership Meeting will be:
Tuesday, July 26th
2:00 - 4:00 PM
Seuss Room
These minutes were recorded by Adolfo Tarango and Penny Coppernoll-Blach due to the Secretary’s absence – thanks to Adolfo and Penny!
Respectfully Submitted by Jeff Williams, 2004/05 LAUC-SD Secretary/Treasurer
