The Living Archive timeline presents events and incidents from UC San Diego’s history (and in some cases, history in general) that affected the campus climate for students in such a way that they were compelled to act or react. A diligent group of librarians poured through various sources of information and talked with faculty members to establish this timeline by decade from the 1960s to the present.
The events provided are by no means meant to be comprehensive. The events documented are parts of a larger history and are meant to inspire research and begin a conversation.
At the link provided, you'll find a selection of events that were included in the timeline presented in the project's physical exhibit held in UC San Diego's Geisel Library from February 1 - March 31, 2017. The text is exclusively direct quotations drawn from the sources consulted. Use "Browse Timeline" to browse all events in the timeline or browse by decade below.
If you would like to add to the history or tell us what you think, feel free to comment as you browse the timeline.
