China Tripping: Encountering the Everyday in the People’s Republic

When
May 1, 2019
3:00 PM–4:30 PM

Join us for an engaging talk with China experts who will reflect on their cultural and social encounters while traveling and living in the People’s Republic. Covering nearly a half-century, these stories open a vivid window on a rapidly evolving China and on the zigzag learning curve of the China trippers themselves. Filling an important gap, China Tripping, allows scholars, journalists and businesspeople to reflect on their personal memories, which often teach more about how a society actually works than a planned course of study can.

Editors Paul Pickowicz and Jeremy Murray will speak about the book project, with reflections from other China scholars at UC San Diego.
