The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has appointed Alanna Aiko Moore as a visiting program officer for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs from September 2021 through July 2022. Moore is the librarian for ethnic studies, gender studies, and sociology at the UC San Diego Library. She brings a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and extensive experience with mentorship programs to the position.
As visiting program officer, Moore will be responsible for enhancing and supporting the mentorship component of ARL’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. She will recruit and liaise with program mentors, provide opportunities for networking and professional development, and share best practices and resources for mentoring students and professionals from historically underrepresented groups. Moore will also develop online training modules for mentors and mentees, and assist with ongoing mentor program evaluations and make recommendations for enhancements.
At the UC San Diego Library, Moore served as the co-chair of the Librarians Association Mentoring Committee. She has served as a mentor for the ARL Career Enhancement Program, the ACRL Dr. E. J. Josey Spectrum Scholar Mentor Program, and the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association Mentoring Program.
“I am so excited to have Alanna serving as a visiting program officer,” said Erik Mitchell, the Audrey Geisel University Librarian at UC San Diego Library. “She has been a leader in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion at UC San Diego and I look forward to having us, and all libraries, benefit from her work with ARL.”
Moore holds a bachelor of arts in sociology and gender studies from Lewis and Clark College and a master of library science from Dominican University. Moore was an ARL Leadership and Career Development Program Fellow in 2011–2012. She has a significant record of service to library associations—including the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), American Library Association (ALA), and Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
