  38. Sonorbuoy. Several devices are commonly employed to aid in the detection of floating buoys at sea. Bells, lights, brightly colored flags and markings have all been in use for years. A new instrument, the Sonorbuoy, has been designed at Scripps. The Sonorbuoy is a versatile and compact miniature FM radio transmitter designed for use inoceanographic studies and projects. It is more easily detectable than most buoys, especially during adverse weather conditions, and may be easily tracked singly or in groups over extended periods of time. It contains batteries sufficient for several days of continuous operation. ...
