Graves of Mrs. Robert Boyd and Arthur Bernard Deacon
- Collection
- Description
-
Mrs. Robert Boyd, wife of South West Bay's first missionary, died a few months after Arthur Bernard Deacon. Her grave stone is on the left. There is something written on the stone in Ninde, the Mewun language. When the young woman in the photo was asked to translate what was written on the stone, she was not able to do so. When Chief Johnsin was asked about what was written on the stone, it prompted a tirade from him and other elders about the way young people are ruining their language, changing it so the older versions are barely understood by the youth.
