Miriam Kastner, research oceanographer and professor of Geology at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Among her many research interest a few are; the role of fluids in the transport of heat and solutes and in sediment accretion and diagenesis in subduction zones; Chemical paleoceanography; Sedimentary geochemistry and diagenesis: mineralogical, chemical, and isotopic studies of recent and older sediments; processes responsible for the formation of submarine hydrothermal deposits; and the origin of present day and ancient phosphorites, dolomites, and cherts.
