Scientist Noriyuki Nasu, of the University of Tokyo's Ocean Research Institute, works behind the Core Splitter recording samples in the Core Laboratory aboard D/V Glomar Challenger (ship) during Leg 57 of the Deep Sea Drilling Project. The noted Japanese oceanographer was Co-Chief Scientist on this cruise along with Roland von Huene, of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Menlo Park, California. 1977.
