This cell was found amidst a colony of NPC (Niemann-Pick Disease type C) mutant mouse mesenchymal stem cells isolated from the bone marrow. This sample was photographed at a magnification of 1,198x and an accelerating voltage of 10kV with a 12.7mm working distance. The cells were grown to confluence on Thermanox® coverslips and fixed with glutaraldehyde and osmium tetroxide, then critical point dried. This coverslip was imaged using an FEI Quanta 200 scanning electron microscope. Note the large lamellipodium and the long retraction fiber extending from the trailing edge of the cell.
