Forge film 04B - Tambaran cult: ritual parading of large ancestral masks, and other phases of initiation ritual at Mandje

Large headdresses (called wagan or wakan) are carried by men during part of an initiation ritual at Mandje. The headdresses include large ancestral paintings of the Ngwalndu spirits of the clan. Film shows the parts of the headdresses being assembled, and attached to the men who carry them with strong frames attached to shoulders and head. Also shows other masked figures known as baba-tagwa.
