Scientist Marcus Langseth of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory, testing the thermal conductivity of a section of core recovered from the Japanese Trench during Leg 56 of the Deep Sea Drilling Project. Langseth along with Hakuyu Okada, of Japan was the Co-Chief Scientist during this Leg of the cruise. 1977.
