Denis Llewellyn Fox (1901-1983), in the biochemistry laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography doing research on fish carotenoids (coloration in fish). Fox was a chemist who came to Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1931. During his early years at Scripps, Fox continued his studies of carbon dioxide narcosis and investigated pigments in fishes as seen here. August 22, 1934.
