Piquet nació en Barcelona el 24 de noviembre de 1934. Conocida como la "Nena del 36" por sus entrevistas y esfuerzos por rescatar la memoria de los testigos y víctimas de la Guerra Civil Española, comparte la satisfacción personal de haber recuperado sus propios recuerdos de infancia de la guerra. Su padre, que luchó en el bando republicano, era albañil afiliado a la Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT). Durante la guerra Piquet vivió en primera persona la devastación de los bombardeos en Barcelona. Uno de sus primeros recuerdos es cuando sobrevivió al bombardeo de su edificio y pensó que un compañero sobreviviente cubierto de polvo era un panadero cubierto de harina. En el invierno de 1939 acompañó a pie a su madre durante el éxodo masivo de republicanos hacia la frontera francesa. Piquet y su madre pasaron la siguiente década exiliadas en varios pueblos pequeños de Francia. En 1943 su padre fue detenido por la Gestapo en Burdeos y enviado a un campo de concentración, pero fue liberado más tarde. Hacia 1950 la familia de Piquet había regresado a Barcelona.

Piquet was born in Barcelona on Nov. 24, 1934. Known as the "Nena del 36" for her interviews and efforts to rescue the memories of the witnesses and victims of the Spanish Civil War, she shares the personal satisfaction of having recovered her own childhood memories of the war. Her father, who fought on the republican side, was a construction worker affiliated with the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT). During the war Piquet experienced firsthand the devastation of bombardments in Barcelona. One of her earliest memories is of surviving the bombardment of her building and thinking a fellow survivor covered in dust was a baker covered in flour. In the winter of 1939 she accompanied her mother on foot during the mass exodus of republicans to the French border. Piquet and her mother spent the next decade exiled in various small towns in France. In 1943 her father was detained by the Gestapo in Bordeaux and sent to a concentration camp, but was freed later. By 1950 Piquet's family had returned to Barcelona
