Men, including Manuel Cabral, Wesley Clarence Crandall, and Robert H. Baker gathered to salvage the wreck of the "Loma" given to the Marine Biological Association of San Diego by E.W. Scripps for research purposes; it ran aground near the lighthouse on Point Loma on July 25, 1906. The Association became the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. July 25, 1906.
