Ibaa is the youngest son of Larikeni, from Furingudu, on the coastal slope above Sinalagu.
Recording continues on Keesing Cassette Tape 085.
’Akomae was a senior man living on the coast just inside the mouth of Sinalagu Harbour.
Ibaa is the youngest son of Larikeni, from Furingudu, on the coastal slope above Sinalagu.
An ’ai’imae is a story about killings in the past, either told or sung in ancestral chant performances that last many hours.
The Young Dick was a labor ship attacked by Kwaio (including some ancestors of Ibaa and ’Akomae) at Sinalagu Harbor in 1886, led by Arumae. ’Akomae tells the story, after Ibaa sings (sulea) a small (about 12-minute) part of the ’ai’imae about it.
Recording continues on Keesing Cassette Tape 131.
