Manual Cabral (left) with an unidentified man, both working on the salvage process of the Loma. The "Loma" was given to the Marine Biological Association of San Diego by E.W. Scripps for research purposes she ran aground near the lighthouse on Point Loma on July 25, 1906. Cabral was a Portuguese fisherman who worked for the Marine Biological Association to captain rented schooners and boats for the association during research ventures. The Association became the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. July 25, 1906.
