H.M.S. Challenger Dredge - Using the dredge pictured above, scientists brought up samples from the bottom of the oceans, including its plant and animal life, and dipped up samples of the water and of the sea life at various levels. Many of the deep dredging of the bottom consumed most of a day's work. During the 3-1/2 year expedition, H.M.S. challenger did dredgings and sampling at 362 sites in all oceans of the world except the Arctic.
