’Elota was a big man at Ga’enaafou (see his autobiography published by Keesing). He died in the mid-1970s.
Talaunga’i was a leader at Kwaina'afi'a.
Adalo are spirits, especially ancestral.
Talainununga is chasing a spirit away from a hamlet after its mortuary feast has ended, but a group dashing about yelling.
Furu are sacred shell valuables, kept in tapa cloth containers in sacred men's house.
Takwebe’unga is burying a corpse.
Afolonga is the marriage feast.
Boonigeni are pigs women can eat, and some men also.
Bata is shell money.
Anoala’anga is an appearance of a shade (ano) of a person, dead or alive, which portends a death. Generically for an omen of death to come.
Tofulana bou--A bou is a ritual post used in garifela and other rituals. There are many rules on how it must be cut (tofulana).
’Aifaafasu is the place this was recorded. There are other recordings of this session, dated 7-9 July 1966.
Recording is a continuation of Keesing Reel-to-Reel 030-031 and continues on Keesing Reel-to-Reel 111-114.
