Easter Ellen Cupp (1904-1999) was the first woman in the United States to receive a doctorate in oceanography, in 1934 from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She is probably best known for her book "Marine Plankton Diatoms of the West Coast of North America." Circa 1938.
