Marine biologists Joel Walker Hedgpeth (left) and Raymond C. Osborne (right) of Pacific Marine Station, Dillons Beach, California. They are checking some bryozoans samples on a field trip to Tomales Bay, a coastal estuary located on the central California coast north of San Francisco. Bryozoan are tiny colonial animals that generally build stony skeletons of calcium carbonate, superficially similar to coral. This photo was published in the Marin Independent Journal, a magazine for Marin County of California. Circa 1959.
