Carmen Arrojo Maroto nació en 1918 en Madrid. Carmen comenta sobre la dictadura de Primo de Rivera, la Revolución de Asturias de 1934, y el bienio negro (1934-36). Recuerda el sufragio femenino y el aniversario de Clara Campoamor. Carmen habla sobre Dolores Ibárruri “La pasionaria”, las Juventudes Socialistas Unificadas, la Unión de Estudiantes Antifascistas, la Alianza Juvenil Antifascista, y los Trece Puntos de Negrín. Señala que entre 1939-48, a su padre lo detuvieron, lo encarcelaron por segunda vez en la cárcel de Porlier con su hermano, y lo llevaron a Pamplona. Carmen nota que a su hermano lo trasladaron de Porlier al Valle de los Caídos, donde estuvo por siete años hasta 1947. Cuenta que conoció a Jesús de Galíndez y a Manuel Tuñón de Lara. Carmen recuenta que trató de irse al exilio con su novio, pero los Nacionalistas les capturaron en Alicante y les pusieron en un campo de concentración. Narra que al salir en libertad usó la documentación de una amiga para irse a Galicia. Carmen relata que estuvo sin documentación entre 1939-52, consiguió el pasaporte con la ayuda de un primo que trabajaba para RENFE, y se hizo maestra en 1969. Explica que en el 2005, descubrió que su novio fue fusilado en 1940 y enterrado en una fosa común en el cementerio de Paterna como tantos otros Republicanos. Carmen reitera la importancia de recuperar la memoria histórica.

Carmen Arrojo Maroto was born in 1918 in Madrid. Carmen discusses Primo de Rivera's dictatorship, the 1934 Asturias Revolution, and the bienio negro (1934-36). She comments on women's suffrage and Clara Campoamor's anniversary. Carmen speaks about Dolores Ibárruri "La pasionaria", the Juventudes Socialistas Unificadas (Unified Socialist Youth), Unión de Estudiantes Antifascistas (Anti-Fascist Student Union), Alianza Juvenil Antifascista (Anti-Fascist Youth Alliance), and Negrín's Thirteen Points. She recalls that between 1939-48 , her father was detained, imprisoned a second time in the Porlier prison with her brother, and taken to Pamplona. Carmen notes that her brother was transferred from Porlier to the Valle de los Caídos, where he remained for seven years until 1947. She tells of meeting Jesús de Galíndez and Manuel Tuñón de Lara. Carmen recounts attempting to go into exile with her boyfriend, being captured by the Nationalists in Alicante, and being detained in a concentration camp. She narrates that upon being released, she traveled to Galicia using a friend's identification documents. Carmen relates not having identification documents between 1939-52, obtaining a passport with the help of a cousin who worked for RENFE, and becoming a teacher in 1969. She explains that in 2005, she discovered that her boyfriend was executed in 1940 and buried in a mass grave in the Paterna cemetery like many other Republicans.
