The "Loma" given to the Marine Biological Association of San Diego by E.W. Scripps for research purposes shown here run aground near the Point Loma lighthouse on July 25, 1906. The boat was caught by the breakers and carried up onto the rocky ledge that juts out from the point. When she could not be rescued everything was taken off the boat, including the copper sheathing and four tons of lead from the keel and she was abandon. The Association became the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. July 25, 1906.
