The D/V Glomar Challenger (ship) was a deep sea research and scientific drilling vessel used for the Deep Sea Drilling Project. It was operated by the Global Marine, Inc. The managing institution for the Deep Sea Drilling Project was Scripps Institution of Oceanography under contract to the National Science Foundation (NSF). September 27, 1983.
