Significant knowledge of the structure of the earth beneath the sea is gathered from seismic studies. An explosive charge originates waves which travel through the sea floor and are picked up by a listening ship. Here Maxwell Silverman, engineer, pushes overboard a 200-point charge of TNT from the shooting table.
