Ule’esango is the performance of dancing and panpiping before a newly opened skull house. This is all part of the sango ritual complex surrounding such skull houses. The pipes are ’ausiisile, an octet. This performance was at ’Ai’eda, in the mountains behind Sinalagu Harbour, at the shrine for ancestress Ma’una.
’Aulebi is a type of panpipe orchestra played from ’Are’are north into the ’Oloburi area of Kwaio. ’Aulebi (a set of four of different sizes) are the largest type of panpipe on Malaita.
’Ausisile is the most common type of panpipes in eastern Kwaio, particularly behind Sinalagu. It is an octet.
’Aukefo is a type of panpipes found in Kwaio and ’Are’are. It is a sextet.
Recording continues on Keesing Reel-to-Reel 148.
