Description

Oral history interviews, sponsored by the UCSD Chancellor's Office and Mandeville Special Collections, with various persons involved with the establishment and development of the UC San Diego campus and the development of various academic programs and departments. Some of the interviews were conducted by historian Kathryn Ringrose as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of UCSD's founding; interviewees include California Governor Edmund (Pat) Brown, UC Regent DeWitt Higgs, UC President Clark Kerr, UCSD Chancellors Herbert York and John Galbraith, and UCSD faculty James Arnold, Robert Hamburger, Roy Harvey Pearce, Roger Revelle, John Stewart, and Hans Suess. Other interviews, conducted by historian Stanley Chodorow in the late 1990s focus on the development of campus academic programs: interviewees include Arthur Wagner, Leonard Newmark, Melvin Voigt, Andrew Wright, George Mandler, Paul Saltman, Gabriel Jackson, and many others. The digitized files were created from originals held by the UC San Diego Library.
