Materials from the Annex

Many of the Library’s lower use collections are held at its off-site storage facility, the Annex, including all pre-2000 bound journals. Users may still access all such items in the following ways. Annex services operate Monday through Friday. Requests placed by Noon M-F will arrive the same day, for both scans and deliveries. Requests placed over the weekend will arrive by 3pm on Monday.

  • Desktop Delivery: UCSD faculty, staff, and students can have articles and book chapters scanned and sent to their desktop by locating desired items in Roger (the online catalog) and clicking ‘Request’ from its details screen.
    • For articles, enter article title and author on the form.
    • For book chapters, include chapter number/page numbers in “Further instructions” field. Note: Only small selections of a book’s text may be delivered electronically.
  • Print & Media Items: Those needing physical items or entire issues of journals can have them sent to Geisel, BLB, or SIO (for eligible users) for pick-up from the Self-Service Hold Shelf. For UC San Diego affiliates, simply locate the desired item in Roger (the online catalog) and click the ‘Request’ link from its details screen. All other borrowers may request items via the Request Form. Non-cardholders may email to request items to be used within the Library.
  • Special Collections: Items held at the Annex from Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) must be requested through their records in Roger. These items will be made available for use within Geisel Library’s Special Collections & Archives unit (2nd floor) during regular SC&A hours.
  • On-Site Viewing: UCSD faculty, staff, and students needing to view large runs of journals or other items may visit the Annex (located in the Miramar area off Trade Street) in person between 8am and 2pm Monday through Friday by making an appointment in advance. Email desired date, arrival time, and a list of materials needed to or call (858) 822-7402. Materials are retrieved in advance and available in the reading room when you arrive. For safety reasons, browsing Annex shelves is not permitted.
