Panel Speakers

Mary Beebe, since its inception in 1981, has been the Director of the Stuart Collection, an ongoing program commissioning outdoor sculpture for the 1200-acre campus at the University of California San Diego. Previously, she was Director for nine years of the Portland Center for Visual Arts and worked at the Portland (Oregon) Art Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University.
Seth Lerer is Distinguished Professor of Literature at the University of California San Diego and former Dean of Arts and Humanities. Prior to UC San Diego he taught at Stanford University, Princeton University, Cambridge University and Washington University in St. Louis. His books include Inventing English: A Portable History of the Language, Children's Literature: A Reader's History from Aesop to Harry Potter (which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Truman Capote Prize in Criticism), the memoir Prospero’s Son, and most recently Shakespeare’s Lyric Stage.
Rob Sidner is executive director and CEO of the Mingei International Musuem. Now in his 26th year with the Museum, Rob served first as Membership Coordinator and Director of Public Relations, then as Assistant Director. He was invited to take on the Museum’s leadership on the retirement of the Museum’s founder in 2005. In his own right he has curated 18 of the Museum’s exhibitions. With Board and Staff he is now leading a major capital campaign to carry out a comprehensive physical renovation that will transform how the Museum relates to Balboa Park and to its public.
