Professor Jay Parini

JAY PARINI, a poet, novelist, and critic, is Axinn Professor of English and Creative Writing at Middlebury College in Vermont. His five books of poetry include The Art of Subtraction: New and Selected Poems. His seven novels include The Apprentice Lover, Benjamin's Crossing, The Passages of H.M. and The Last Station -- the latter was made into an Academy Award-nominated film starring Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer. His numerous biographies and works of nonfiction include Robert Frost:  A Life and On Matchless Time:  A  Life of William Faulkner, as well as Promised Land:  Thirteen Books that Changed America.

Parini has taught at Dartmouth, Oxford, and Middlebury, and he writes for many publications, including the Chronicle of Higher Education, The New York Times, and The Guardian. His books have been translated into over thirty languages.
