This collection brings together programmatic, descriptive textual materials and video-recorded proceedings of unique presentations (including readings and recitations of original literature and literary analysis) at the “Indigenous Writers and Their Critics” Symposium held at the University of California – San Diego on Feb. 24 and 25, 2020. The event convened indigenous authors and academics specializing in critical examination of such authors’ literary production, with the goals of profiling the importance of all participants’ work and creating a space for them to dialogue and collaborate at UCSD. Such conversations allow indigenous writers to critically intervene in academic discussions and thereby ensure that indigenous knowledge occupies a leading role in global discussions of the humanities and supports ongoing, critical opposition to the replication of North/South knowledge asymmetries. This event supplements the UCSD Library’s effort to build a collection of indigenous works by the participants and other authors.
Esta colección junta materiales programáticos, textuales, y grabaciones por video de las ponencias únicas (incluso lecturas y recitaciones de literatura original y análisis) presentadas en el simposio internacional “Escritores indígenas y sus críticos” realizado en la Universidad de California – San Diego el 24 y 25 de febrero, 2020. El evento reunió autores indígenas y especialistas académicos enfocados en la examinación critica de la producción literaria de tales autores. El simposio tuvo como meta subrayar la importancia de las obras de los participantes y crear un espacio para dialogar y colaborar en UCSD. Tales interacciones ofrecen a los escritores indígenas la oportunidad de insertarse en discursos académicos y así aseguran que el conocimiento indígena ocupe un papel principal en discusiones mundiales sobre las humanidades y una oposición crítica a la replicación de los conocimientos asimétricos del norte y el sur global. El evento complementa el esfuerzo de la Biblioteca de UCSD para construir una colección de obras indígenas escritos por los participantes y otros autores. - Event Date
